New Roofing Services in Romford
In order to replace your current roof, you should get a roofing contractor to inspect the internal structure of your roof to ensure that it is stable enough to hold your new roof. It would be counterproductive if you payed for a new roof to go on top of a weak roof structure. Our roof replacement services include an inspection of the inside of your roof to determine the extent of work that needs to be carried out.
If you need a roof replacement, you probably never had to deal with the installation of your property’s old roof, so you may not know the different factors that can affect the appearance and cost of your roof. The help of a roofing contractor will make sure that you are getting the best roofing materials that suit the pitch and shape of your roof.
For example, there are certain materials that aren’t practical for the structure of certain roofs. There are two basic types of roof structure, pitched or sloping roofs and flat roofs.
New Roof Construction
Pitched roofs typically go from 40° to 50° and roofs with pitches of 10° to 20° are known as low pitched roofs.
As well as the visual appearance, pitched roofs need to be chosen to match the materials to be used on top of the roof. Roofs that are 45° or more may not be as suitable for slate tiles as a flatter roof. In areas that have high snowfall, the pitch should be much greater to prevent the snow from settling and building up on the top of your roof.
Low pitched roofs also need consideration as the angle requires the overlap of tiles to be spaced out differently. If the tiles are not correctly overlapped, water could be blown into the roof by strong wind and result in a leaky roof.
Flat roofs are generally built with a pitch of no more than 15°. Flat roofs with a pitch that is any less will not allow rainwater to drain away and will require a fall to carry water to collection points. Flat roofs don’t generally use tiles as it is not the most practical material to use. Most flat roofs are covered in felt, EDPM, GRP or asphalt.
Finding a Company for Residential Roof Replacement
If your roof uses slate, clay tiles, or concrete clay tiles you may have the option to reuse those tiles and relay them onto your new roof if they are in good enough condition. This is an option for those who want to preserve the period look of their property whilst guaranteeing a strong new roof with a longer lifespan.
Reusing tiles also saves you on the costs of buying new slates. If you are planning to reuse the slates on your current roof, you should ask the roofing contractor to give you an idea on the percentage of tiles that are reusable, so you know in advance how many new slates you need to buy. Any missing slates can either be purchased by yourself or through the roofer’s roofing merchant. Second hand slates reclaimed from re-roofs is a popular market, so you will have no problem finding matching slates to complete your replacement roof.
Our services cover a wide range of roofing and we consider all aspects and benefits of each material to make sure that you get the best results.
